Rates
Regular fee: $110 per 50-minute session. Sliding scale discounts are available for students, those on lower incomes, and those choosing not to use insurance because of a high deductible. Please note that Jane does not accept MinnesotaCare or Medical Assistance.

Insurance
Jane does not work directly with insurance companies but most providers will cover services on an out-of-network basis, depending on your plan. You will need to pay the full session fee and then seek reimbursement from your insurer. Jane will provide you with all the necessary paperwork to do this. See below for information on working with insurance and questions to ask your healthcare provider.

FSA and HSA Arrangements
If you are not using insurance, you may be able to fund your therapy through your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA). If you will be using such an arrangement, please speak with Jane to ensure you receive the necessary statements, receipts and invoices you need.

Sliding Scale Discounts
If you do not have insurance or if you choose not to use insurance because of a high deductible, you may qualify for a Sliding Scale Discount. Discounts are available for those on lower incomes who are seeking individual therapy and can make a daytime appointment before 4pm. Please be aware that discounted (sliding scale) payments cannot by law be combined with insurance submissions or applied to a deductible. Call Jane on 612 414 0383 or click here to send an email to find out about how sliding scale discounts may apply to your situation.

Finally, please understand that Jane is only able to offer sliding scale discounts because the majority of clients respectfully make payments on the same day of their service. Clients who cancel less than one business day before their first session, or who fail to make a same-day payment on two consecutive occasions, will no longer be eligible to receive the sliding scale discount. Please familiarize yourself with the Sliding Scale Policy as you will need to indicate your agreement with it.

Payment terms
Payment is required at the time of the session by cash or check. You can also pre-pay by credit card through this website, but please arrange this with Jane before doing so. Because credit card facilities are not available at either office, you will need to complete the payment online before your appointment and bring the receipt with you in lieu of cash or check. Note that because of the fees incurred with this service, this option is available to clients paying the full rate for a session or those using a designated HSA credit card. If you are benefitting from a sliding scale arrangement, you will need to add a $2.50 fee to the cost of the session if you choose to pay by credit card.

No-Show and Cancellation Policy
Unless there is an unavoidable emergency (eg: car accident, hospitalization, house fire) and you fail to show for a scheduled appointment or cancel within 24 hours/less than one business day, you will be charged the full fee for the session. No-show and cancellation fees are not reimbursable. Note that "one business day" means that cancellations for Monday appointments must be received by 3pm on the preceding Friday.

Working with Insurance
As a general rule, health insurance companies will only pay for therapy if there is a diagnosable clinical condition (eg: Dysthymic Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, PTSD, etc.). Please note that couples therapy - where the relationship is the focus of the therapy - is NOT typically covered by insurance unless one of the partners has a clinical diagnosis that is to be treated as part of the couples therapy. Diagnoses must be submitted to the insurance company before they will determine whether or not they will pay for treatment. Insurance companies also have the right to periodically review progress and ask about any shifts in treatment-focus to determine whether they will continue to pay for therapy.

Therapists (such as Jane) who choose not to be in-network with health insurance companies must still make a diagnosis, create a treatment plan and keep regular progress notes - which you, as the client, can request details of. However, you do not have to meet criteria for a clinical diagnosis to receive therapy, and you have much more flexibility in choosing the issues you would like to be the focus of therapy. This means that you can bring any issues with which you are grappling, whether relational, sexual, spiritual, cultural, work/career-related, bereavement-related or whatever else may be concerning you.

Whether or not you use insurance, your information and therapy records are heavily protected by both Federal and State laws to ensure your privacy. All medical and mental health providers and health insurance companies are strictly bound by the laws of confidentiality. Questions to ask your insurance provider
If you are intending to have your therapy reimbursed through insurance, the following questions may help in your conversation with your provider:

  • Do I have mental health benefits?
  • Do I have a deductible for out-of-network coverage and how much is it?
  • What percentage of out-of-network charges are reimbursed once the deductible has been met?
  • How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
  • How do I obtain reimbursement for therapy with an out-of-network provider?
  • Is a referral required from my primary care physician?
